2019 PAPANUI Ward final election results
Some very interesting vote splitting in Papanui Ward, which had the closest result in the city (18 votes) and was one of the more hotly contested wards. Peoples Choice split their vote for community board, wasting 1876 votes. Mr McCluskey missed by 18 votes (100/1). Cr Davidson was re-elected with the lowest council majority (behind newbie Mr McClelland in the outlier Central ward - Deon Swiggs). 1316 more voted against the incumbent Papanui Cr. than for. Once again (as in 2016) the Cr. received less votes than one of the community board members. Innes also polled very low, only 2602 for incumbent Cr Cotter.
Curiously, Papanui remains hotly contested next to the walk-in uncontested or largely uncontested, Wards of Fendalton, Waimairi, Harewood. Why is this so?
