Papanui Bus & Bike Lanes to Now Go Ahead
Council has had confirmed from NZ Transport Agency the dedicated Bus & Bike lanes through Papanui Village will proceed. It was due to start June, but is delayed till 2020.
There will be kerb and footpath realignment, along with light changes on Main North Rd/Grassmere intersection.
In my view, this is not good. Locals don't support it; it's a City northbound commuter egressing-of-Papanui convenience; we lose north-side Papanui retail street parking; it saves perhaps a few seconds on the bus at most; and is dangerous for cyclists sharing the new dedicated Bus & Bike lane as they traverse around buses into narrowed car corridors. Lincoln Rd locals are equally up-in-arms. Same proposal.
