Questions are now being asked if more than 35,000 parking spaces is too many, especially given transport is the city’s largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and the Christchurch City Council has a goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2045.
While the number of on-street parks has reduced, the number of off-street parking spaces in central Christchurch has doubled in five years and there are more than 200 vacant sites in the central city that have become car parks.
What do you think - does Christchurch have too many car parks, or is car parking in the CBD hard to find or too expensive? Read the full story here and tell us what you think in the comments below.

“I would like to nominate and THANK our great neighbour's living at Viv Davie Martin Drive for their creativity and huge effort during lock down. They lifted all our spirits with their daily Teddy bear reenactment on how to keep busy. Each day people came to see what Teddy bear was up to. With keen interest kids in our neighbourhood even gave Teddy a proper name...meet Vincent LOL! It's through times like this that such acts of goodness should be acknowledged and the memories they hold forever treasured. A selected few photos of Vincent's daily lockdown activities "thanks Vincent :)"

Woods made the comment on Twitter on Thursday evening in response to a complaint from a member of the public about Christchurch’s lack of hospital parking.
"Please be assured that we understand just how much of a problem the lack of a carpark is. I have been working on the details of a solution that's pretty much there - more to say very soon," she wrote.
Has the lack of hospital parking been a problem for you? Where do you think a new parking building or site should go?
