Christchurch City Council has today given the go ahead for interim remediation work to be done on up to 42 below ground well heads that tap into flowing artesian aquifers where the risk of contamination is low.
“If we want to meet our target of getting the chlorine out of our drinking water by May next year we need to do this interim remediation work,’’ says Cr Pauline Cotter, Chair of the Council’s Infrastructure, Transport and Environment Committee.

Emergency Mobile Alerts are not meant to replace other emergency alerts, or the need to take action after natural warnings.
You still need to be prepared for an emergency and you should not wait to get an alert before you act. If you feel your life is in danger, don’t wait for an official warning. Take immediate action.

What do you think about the teachers' strike? Thousands of Canterbury primary school teachers and principals are striking across the region today.
About 143 primary schools have closed, affecting around 50,000 school children. It's the third in a series of rolling strikes, and even bigger strikes including both primary and secondary school teachers haven't been ruled out yet.
Teachers say the strike action is calling for better pay and working conditions, more learning support, including for children with special needs, and smaller class sizes.
So, do you support the strike action? Or do you think they should have accepted the previous offer? Are you a striking teacher? Or a parent that's been affected by the strike action? Let us know your thoughts in the replies below.

A great example is Pasifika student Tepora Rokotavo who did a pre-trade course in electrical studies with us at Ara Institute of Canterbury. Tepora achieved 93% in her final exams – an outstanding result – and is now on her way to becoming a qualified electrician. We love helping female students into trades careers.
