And a huge congratulations to Meg Wilson - the founder of PAWS (Pet Animal Welfare Shops) across South Waikato! Meg's passion for pets received almost 20% of votes which has seen her walk away with a prize package worth $10,000 to support the work she and her team of volunteers do each day.

Thank you Neighbourly members for rallying around businesses in your community and continuing to show them how valued they are!

Did you know there are 108 volunteers in the CAB Christchurch area and only 1 paid staff member. Our volunteers are a diverse bunch, with different backgrounds, ethnicities and languages but they all come together to help the community. Working from 3 branches around Christchurch from Monday to Friday, plus at the Loft at Eastgate on a Tuesday, so we can be near you to help.

Vehicle Licensing scam

Chris from Prebbleton

As you may be aware there is a scam doing the rounds for vehicle licensing. I just received one of these and here are some observations. Any of these should tell you that it is a scam.

As you may be aware there is a scam doing the rounds for vehicle licensing. I just received one of these and here are some observations. Any of these should tell you that it is a scam.
1. No mention of which vehicle we are supposed to relicence or its licence plate.
2. The attachment showed up as a jpeg but referenced a pdf.
3. The clickable box in the pdf when you hover over it shows as being from a site toolkeat.com and clicking through this takes you to dafcanada.com which is based in Argentina (maybe this is an effort by the Argentinean govt to solve their current financial crisis ?).
4. An examination of the raw internet data shows the email itself coming from contaboserver.net which is based in Germany.
5. If you manage to get through to toolkeat.com/wp-content/nz/ a web site looking like NZ Transports opens up at a page which looks like the renewal site but hosted by dafcanada.com and as noted above it is based in Argentina. The real site is based at www.nzta.govt.nz....
As you can see there are plenty of warnings that it is a scam.
Try and stay safe out there.

Christchurch’s Park Tce cycleway will remain in place following a tense debate and accusations of contempt for cyclists and all residents.

Last month, council staff replaced a vehicle lane on Park Tce with a cycleway. The work was done under temporary traffic management rules and sparked outrage amongst some councillors and mayor Phil Mauger, who accused council staff of “running amok”. Other councillors accused staff of being “sneaky”.

Cyclists, wearing hi-vis clothing and helmets, filled the Christchurch City Council’s public gallery on Wednesday, holding signs pleading with the council to keep the cycleway in place.

Their views were heard by the majority of the council, which voted 10-6 against councillor James Gough’s bid to immediately rip up the cycleway.

What are your winter-warming hacks?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

June is upon us, so it's well and truly time to hunker down for the colder temperatures. For some across Aotearoa, this just means a second duvet on the bed. And for others, it's defrosting your car windscreen daily and bringing out the heaters.
