The challenges range from physical (like tug-of-war) to mental (like the memory challenge) to knowledge-based (like the music challenge) to fun (like painting with Resene colours).

Have a fun day in the sun whilst exploring one of Christchurch's brand-new regional parks with the Styx Living Laboratory Trust. Kayaking, guided walks, bird and water monitoring, planting, scavenger hunt, weaving and much more.
Music at Edmond Gardens
Sunday 16 February, noon to 4pm, Edmonds Factory Garden, 359 Ferry Road. An afternoon of free live music, afternoon teas $2.00. Chairs and/or rugs to sit on advised. Art display with plants and cards for sale. Free bouncy castle for children. Cancelled if wet.
Chinese New Year Parade
Sunday 16 February, 3pm to 5pm, Bridge of Remembrance to Cathedral Square. Organised by the Christchurch Chinese community to share the most important Chinese annual celebration. The parade from the Bridge of Remembrance to the Square through Cashel Street will be followed by performances by the paraders. Free.

It's been a mixed summer so far for New Zealand. Much of the country has seen record breaking temperatures, drought-conditions and scrub fires. But in recent days the West Coast and Southland have experienced heavy rains, flooding, evacuations and closed roads. Our thoughts are with affected.

Our skies have been coloured by smoke blown over from the Australian bushfires, meanwhile Wellingtonians are just stoked if they get to see the sun.

Bobby … View moreIt's been a week tonight since my physically disabled cat managed to get out from our property on Peebles Drive. He had never been outside before. He is a small, slender black cat, has large amber eyes and is wearing a grey collar with a metallic blue disc with his name and my number. Bobby has a congenital deformity of his back legs so they are half the size than normal. Please keep a look out, please take the time to check garages, sheds etc. I am so worried about him being out there with his condition and with the heat on top.

The study was based on the physical activity levels of 1.6 million students across 146 countries to determine how many of them adhere to the World Health Organisation's recommendation of at least one hour of physical activity a day for teenagers. Australia was one of the worst performers, ranking 140, with New Zealand faring only slightly better at 138.
