Outside of highly visible headline-generating crimes they show the opposite - and Ric Stevens Open Justice Project reporting brought to light the ways current coverage could be distorting perceptions of what is actually going on.

I don't have many memories from my childhood, but the memories I do have relate to food - picnics with bacon and egg pie, my mother’s home cooking, Sunday bread. I was never much of a sweet tooth, but instead I preferred savouries, pastries, breads and the like. I grew up on a farm and food was plentiful and was never restricted and I lived a pretty healthy, active lifestyle.
Once I hit my teenage years, however, I remember starting to get worried about my weight. (I'll just mention here that I don't think I have ever been overweight and I certainly wasn't overweight as a teenager). I'm not sure how this all came about, but it was around the time I started getting interested in boys and my body was changing. I would stare at myself in the mirror and think I was fat.

and looking to put together some bags with essential
items for Housing First. Donations of (new only)
toiletries, sanitary items, socks, underwear,
facial wipes, portable radio's/batteries, grocery vouchers all
much needed. This will make a real difference to those
living it tough on the streets this Xmas.
Open Home Foundation are in need of gifts for children
aged 8-14 years in particular.

It has been a wonderful experience and eventful 10 years since the Halswell Community Market began in the grounds of St Lukes Church before moving to St John of God. We have enjoyed immensely working together with SJOG to bring the community together for the monthly markets over the years.
… View moreIt has been a wonderful experience and eventful 10 years since the Halswell Community Market began in the grounds of St Lukes Church before moving to St John of God. We have enjoyed immensely working together with SJOG to bring the community together for the monthly markets over the years.
Sadly COVID intervened and it was put on hold after managing just one market in May 2021.
Whilst we know many would like to see the return of the market now that things have settled down, both SJOG and ourselves have decided it was time to cease operating and base the baton onto someone else.
We will continue to run events and support/promote other groups in the community while managing the Halswell Community Hub.
