Rotary! You have heard of it…but what is it? Rotary International is a service club like no other. We serve in this community and thousands of other communities around the world. With 1.2 million members in over 35,000 clubs globally, Rotary is well placed to reach out when a positive outcome is desired or needed. Christchurch has over a dozen Rotary clubs made up of members just like you and me. People wanting to put something back into our community at many levels.
So what have we at Rotary Club of Christchurch South achieved of late?
This month at a weekly meeting (04/10/17), we made a donation to a local decile 2 school for uniforms to kit out their basketball team. No big deal? Maybe not, but without the uniforms the team would not exist, or certainly not be able to compete as an equal with other well-turned-out teams. Now they can.
And what of the past? What has Rotary achieved? How’s this for starters…
Locally:
Community donations, community building projects, public environmental seminars, student exchanges, youth development, school speech contests, charity collections, medical research assistance, vocational interaction and much much more.
Nationally:
Crippled children’s Society (CCS), First Health Camps, First Karitane hospital, Defensive driving courses, Kidney Foundation, Riding for disabled, Asthma Society, First mobile TB clinic, Milk in schools, Outward Bound, Ellerslie flower show!
Internationally:
In partnership with the World Health Organisation Rotary has played a major role (over $1b NZD donated) in the now almost-eradicated disease, polio. Peace scholarships, Group study Exchanges, Ambassadorial scholarships, Youth exchanges, Conflict resolution, Literacy and education, Water projects and much more.
Interested? The Rotary Club of Christchurch South meets on most Wednesday evenings, 6pm, at the Cashmere Club in Colombo Street, Beckenham. Please come and join us for a meeting or two and see if Rotary is an organisation that interests you. Call Alan Airay on 027 895 5409 or 337 0835 and he will confirm meeting dates. E-mail airay@xtra.co.nz if preferred.
We look forward to meeting you and extend the hand of friendship and fellowship in the name of Rotary.

I'm not planning on selling my place any time soon, but if anyone is, this voucher might be very useful for saving yourself half a thousand! Let me know if you want to use it and I can arrange to pass it on to you 🙂
