The Selwyn District Council is currently reviewing its Class 4 gambling venues policy. You can have your say on its proposed policy until Friday 4 March.
The Council is proposing two policy options:
Option 1 - A policy with a cap of 124 Class 4 gaming machines
Option 2 - A policy with a sinking lid on the number of Class 4 gaming machines
Currently, the Selwyn District Council has a cap of 113 gaming machines. We are encouraging the Council to adopt a sinking lid policy and prohibit relocations or club mergers. A sinking lid is the best policy to control the growth of gambling and minimise harm.

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

After ten years of depression, my life had hit rock bottom
I remember being ‘different’ around food for most of my life. This included things such as being the person who had two cream buns at morning tea when everyone else had one; eating icing sugar by the spoonful directly from the packet; and being the family member who went into the kitchen after dinner to eat the leftovers. There are numerous other examples – too many to list. I could overeat anything. If I couldn’t get my preferred favourites (e.g. chocolate), I’d be eating the vegetables.
