Break in today at old Bishopdale library. The upstairs area is now completely trashed.

Gary Watts from SigJaws Chartitable Trust

This afternoon I promptly alerted the Police when I recognised there was major Breakin in progress at this large and severely earthquake damaged Christchurch City Council owned (now closed and quite dangerous) building. As when walking closeby I was surprised to see all the interior lights suddenly turned on (the second floor) and then a dry powder fire extinguisher being blasted out of an opened window. This gave a clear indication in certain forms of ongoing and distinctly unusual activity. However I then noted the security fence surrounding the new complex currently being built had been forced wide open. When I realised this allowed free access to the rear of this building (which was not even padlocked) I felt quite sure this required immediate and further investigation. The police response was absolutely amazing (very quick) and it appears the offenders (believe two local kids) left in quite a hurry (on a bike and a small kids scooter) and escaped being caught. The police noted the entire upstairs of this building is now completely trashed. A grave concern is the total failure of ensuring the security of this dangerous building for serious safety reasons.

Poll: As a customer, what do you think about automation?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The Press investigates the growing reliance on your unpaid labour.

Automation (or the “unpaid shift”) is often described as efficient ... but it tends to benefit employers more than consumers.

We want to know: What do you think about automation?

Poll: Would you take a 1.5-hour hike for a shop? 🌿🐦

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Canterbury, you have a hidden treasure right on your doorstep ... though it does come with a 1.5-hour walk up the stunning Rakaia Gorge Walkway.

Along the trail you’ll find The Fantail Shop showcasing small artworks by local artisans. Even better, every purchase supports the Fantail Trust, helping protect and restore biodiversity on the north bank of the gorge.

So we’re curious: would you take a 1.5-hour hike for a shop? (And for local biodiversity, of course 🌿)
