Local state of emergency declared

Media Team from Christchurch City Council

Christchurch Mayor Lianne Dalziel has declared a local state of emergency in Christchurch as a precautionary measure to allow us to prepare fully for any issues that may arise with the high tide due this afternoon. The declaration will enable us to work with multiple agencies to respond, and quickly evacuate people should the need arise.

Our Civil Defence Centre is re-opening again at midday today.

People self-evacuating should call the Council’s Call Centre on 0800 800 169 or 03 941 8999 to register their details so we can keep them updated.

What's your favourite tomato recipe?

Mei Leng Wong Reporter from NZ Gardener & Get Growing

Kia ora neighbours. We know your tomato plants are still growing, but we're looking ahead to the harvest already! If you've got a family recipe for tomatoes, we'd love to see it and maybe publish it in our magazine to share with our readers. Send your recipe to mailbox@nzgardener.co.nz, and if we use it in the mag, you will receive a free copy of our February 2025 issue.

Cats Still Missing - NEW TO AREA - Please keep sharing

Dowana from Northcote

Please help us find Sid and Dizzy. Missing since 10th November around Leander Street, Northcote. They snuck away after a stressful move into town, and so will likely be confused and a bit timid.
If found please contact Barbara Johnstone on 027 441 5594
We are particularly worried about Dizzy (black & white) he is older mainly a house cat and is VERY deaf : there were possible sightings of him on Joiners Ln (near Vagues Rd) not long after they went missing, but he's not been spotted since.

Please keep a look out for him. Thanks to everyone for your support.
