Christchurch mayor Phil Mauger says GST on rates, currently taken by central government, would be better spent locally.

The comments follow an Infometrics analysis that found over $1.1 billion of rates revenue nationwide was collected by the Government in 2022 as GST.

According to Infometrics, $88.5m of that came from Christchurch city ratepayers. It would be enough to save the Christ Church Cathedral from ruin; restore the Dux de Lux seven times over; cover both the Art Centre and Orana Wildlife Park’s request for regular public funding for over 26 years; contribute to light rail in Greater Christchurch; or get the South Library rebuild completed.

Rochelle from Northcote

Thanks To All That Were Interested In Finding Our Beautiful Boy A Home. We Are So Delighted To Share That Midnight Is Happy Tonight With His New Owners In Their Lovely Warm Home... We Are So Delighted To Share That Midnight Is Happy Tonight With His New Owners In Their Lovely Warm Home... He Has A Huge Back Yard (Meadow) & In The Arms Of The Most Loving, Patient, Kind Hearted People We Have Ever Met. The Perfect Ending For Our Baby Boy, Our Prayers Have Been Certainly Answered….We Got More Than We Could Have Ever Asked For. Thankyou Again To All For Your Support

We Are Looking For A Forever Home For Our 1 Year Old Stray Cat Who Has Been Neutered & Microchipped & Very Much Loved. Unfortunately He Isn’t Getting On With Our Other Male Stray Cat & So Ideally He Needs Somewhere With No Other Cats & Definitely No Dogs. Midnight Has Been With Us For A Few Months Now After Being Abandoned & Unloved By His Original Owners. He Is A Very Intelligent Smart Cat & He Loves His Cuddles. Midnight Really Needs One On One Care As He Can Be Unpredictable At Times So I Have Been Left With A Few Scratches Hence Also Being The Reason He Needs To Be The Only Pet In A Household Of Adult/Adults. He Has Been Mainly An Outdoor Cat But Recently He Has Been Wanting To Be Indoors With Us Especially With The Bad Weather (Rain), We Have Noticed He Has A Fear Of The Rain… Midnight Loves To Play Fetch & He Is Very Good With Trips To The Vets. Midnight Loves To Roam The Neighbourhood But Always Comes Back Home To Eat, Play & Every Night At The Same Time He Gets Tucked Into His Bed. We Are Seeking A Forever Home For Midnight Preferably With A Larger Section Or A LifeStyle Block As He Does Love To Explore & Climb. We Lost Our Beautiful 17 Year Old Cat Ella Recently & The Day She Got Sick is The Day Midnight Lay On Me For The First Time (Pictured Below) After Being In Our Care For 9 Months, He Never Once Got That Close To Us Until That Day. He Has Been Very Healing For Us All Since Her Passing Less Than 2 Weeks Ago & A Good Companion So This Is Very Sad (Breaks Our Hearts) For Us To Have To Give Him Away. Midnight Comes With A Large Plastic Cat House, Flee Treatment, Blankets & Vet Food To Get Him Started. Midnight Deserves More Than What We Can Offer Him & So We Pray We Can Find Him The Perfect Home. Please Phone Chris On 0279561055 Or Rochelle On 02102371373 If You Would Like To Talk More With Us Regarding A Forever Home For Our Wee Man….We Are Happy To Give Midnight A Trail Run With His New Home & If It Doesn’t Work We Will Happily Take Him Back Anytime As We Just Want Him To Be Happy….
