Proposed Leisure Centre & Library for Denton Park
Do you know about the Proposed Leisure Unit and Library the Council would like to build? There has been consultation recently about this proposal but the Council did not revel all in the consultation.
On Saturday at a Community Board meeting they decided that Denton Park should be the preferred option even though the Submissions favored Kyle Park.
This will now go to full Council Meeting on 24th August.
As a member of Hornby Rugby Football Club we are very concerned and so are the Hornby Cricket Club members because we stand to lose some of our sporting grounds if this facility goes ahead.
They intend to run the building along the front of Denton Park the full width and parking will be at the back of Denton Oval. You will not be able to see any of Denton Park from the Main road. As a community we should be very worried about this proposal. The traffic congestion is bad enough now around the Hub and will be double if it goes ahead. There will be no parking in front of the building. They will require staff parking as well and also the users of the facility.
Please be aware of what the Council are pushing and sign the petition on the link below to help us preserve Denton Park as our beautiful green space that it is for the future of Hornby residents.
We are not against the Proposed Leisure Centre at all but just not at Denton Park. We prefer Kyle Park or Warren Park, so we are hoping you can help us out and fight the Council to decide against Denton Park. Kyle Park should be cleaned up so the Community can use it for recreation & a New Library and Council offices.

We thank you for your support and lets hope we can turn this decision around.
⚠️ DOGS DIE IN HOT CARS. If you love them, don't leave them. ⚠️
It's a message we share time and time again, and this year, we're calling on you to help us spread that message further.
Did you know that calls to SPCA about dogs left inside hot cars made up a whopping 11% of all welfare calls last summer? This is a completely preventable issue, and one which is causing hundreds of dogs (often loved pets) to suffer.
Here are some quick facts to share with the dog owners in your life:
👉 The temperature inside a car can heat to over 50°C in less than 15 minutes.
👉 Parking in the shade and cracking windows does little to help on a warm day. Dogs rely on panting to keep cool, which they can't do in a hot car.
👉 This puts dogs at a high risk of heatstroke - a serious condition for dogs, with a mortality rate between 39%-50%.
👉 It is an offence under the Animal Welfare Act to leave a dog in a hot vehicle if they are showing signs of heat stress. You can be fined, and prosecuted.
SPCA has created downloadable resources to help you spread the message even further. Posters, a flyer, and a social media tile can be downloaded from our website here: www.spca.nz...
We encourage you to use these - and ask your local businesses to display the posters if they can. Flyers can be kept in your car and handed out as needed.
This is a community problem, and one we cannot solve alone. Help us to prevent more tragedies this summer by sharing this post.
On behalf of the animals - thank you ❤️
