Bubbles were recently switched off at the Pioneer Pool spa in Christchurch because lifeguards were worried they may not spot someone passing out and slipping below the surface.

One staff member feared a person could slip beneath the surface, drown, and not be found until they were stood on.

On Tuesday, the Christchurch City Council told Stuff plans were in place to install a smaller air blower in the spa over the next couple of weeks, which should produce slightly reduced bubbles while keeping visibility for lifeguards.

If so, I would like to take it away for free. I want to put it to pieces and take the Fresnel lens out of it. Happy to pickup anywhere in Christchurch. "Projector "TVs are how they made big screens before LCD screens were common. I have posted this message in August 2021. I will keep re-posting for up to a year or so because I suspect they are not very common these days. If you are interested please contact me on my mobile and tell me the model of TV you have. I will confirm it is a projector screen before I commit to picking it up. Thanks in anticipation. Kieran Scott 0278 093 663.

All regions outside of the Auckland and Northland region will move to Alert Level 3 11.59pm Tuesday August 31.

In a press conference Friday afternoon, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern confirmed that Auckland and Northland will likely need to complete a further full two weeks at level 4 in order to keep the Delta variant from spreading further in the regions.

Here's what you need to know
- There will be regional boundaries, there will be no travel allowed between regions unless required for essential services.
- Boundaries maintained in the last February lockdown will be reinstated.
- Around 500 locations of interest have been identified.
- The exposure site in Warkworth is a large workplace. Ardern hoped the people of Northland will understand why they're moving with caution. Northland won't always be grouped in with Auckland.

Architect Michael O’Sullivan suggests we take a cue from our own history to provide quarantine facilities for incoming travellers.

O’Sullivan says Quail Island in Lyttelton Harbour was used to quarantine people with leprosy more than a century ago, and is perfectly located to be an MIQ facility.

The architect, who has an office overlooking the harbour, has suggested a prefabricated pod design could provide suitable accommodation on the island. The pods would be environmentally and aesthetically responsive to the landscape.

The government has previously resisted suggestions that we should develop purpose-built MIQ facilities, including isolating people on military bases or other remote locations, in favour of using hotels.

What do you think of O'Sullivan's idea? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
