Tahunanui Playground Project 2024
The Nelson Host Lions Club was formed in 1962. One of our first projects was the initial construction of the Tahunanui Playground.
This has been added to and well-used by generations of young Nelson People.
Last Year, the first item built at the playground, the concrete train was removed after it was damaged and no longer fit for purpose. There was a lot of concern and discussion from the local community over this removal.
Our Lions Club is pleased to advise that we are ready to begin on the replacement train. It will be wooden this time as this is more durable and user-friendly. This will be a joint build with the help of the MenzShed Waimea. The NCC is also on board with approval and assistance.
In order to have Community involvement and ownership in the project it has been suggested that we open a GIVE-A-LITTLE page. This is being organised by the Tahunanui Business & Citizen Assn. This Friday is Pink Shirt Day, which began in Canada in 2007 when two students took a stand against homophobic bullying after a new student was harassed for wearing pink. People across the globe are now encouraged to wear pink on this day to take a stand against bullying and promote inclusivity.
