Tonight, one of our very own, reporter Ruwade Bryant, will attend the prestigious 2017 Canon Media Awards in Auckland.
Ruwade, who has been with Franklin County News and the Fairfax NZ family since January, is a finalist in the Student Journalist of the Year category, for his work on Fairfax’s Sunday Star Times and stuff.co.nz during his internship in 2016.
The Canon awards are New Zealand’s most prestigious media awards - showcasing and acknowledging the best of the country’s journalists, photographers, newspapers, magazines and websites - so to be nominated is a huge achievement.
Journalists from throughout the country aspire to be on the finalists’ list, so Ruwade has done remarkably well.
The Franklin County News team is extremely proud of Ruwade and wish him the best of luck for tonight's awards ceremony.

We may not have trained seals to keep the kids entertained indoors but we do have lots of games, books and DVDs. If you haven't visited our Restore in Pukekohe yet come on down to number five Adams Drive (behind the café). Turn left at the Blackbarn on the road out to Paerata and watch out for clowns! Our Restore is a show like no other, bring the whole family and grab a bargain.

I do hope all the mums in our district had a fabulous Mother’s Day on Sunday.
As a mum of two, I so very much enjoy Mother’s Day more than Father’s Day!
I was well spoilt - brekkie in bed, lunch with my eldest daughter (the younger was busy at a friend’s birthday), then a delicious family dinner where we dined on roast pork, lamb and all the trimmings, followed by sweet treats from The Cheesecake Shop. Yum.
Since having my girls (and that’s a few years ago now), I have developed a new appreciation for just how awesome mums are - and I’m so grateful to mine for being not only a role model, but a very close friend.
Mother’s Day might only come around once a year - but I reckon we should show our mums just how much we adore them, and are thankful for all they do - every day. I know I’d appreciate it.
