The last time I advertised here was over 2 years ago. I received lots of work from the advert as well as through word of mouth. I retired from being a graphic designer 7 years ago and now work as a house painter. I have had a lot of previous experience, having refurbished many homes, so I began working for a commercial operator for a year. I learned a lot but also found the quality of workmanship wanting, particularly in the area of preparation. So I decided to go out on my own using my own contacts and got sufficient work for a few years, all from word of mouth. My standard of preparation, the most important aspect of an excellent job, I could proudly state is as good if not better than most, and have many references to verify this. I do not do quotes as they require a contingency percentage and one party loses or often short cuts are taken. I prefer to give estimates of time instead. If I come across an unexpected problem, for instance rot, which I can fix, I will discuss this with you on how to proceed. My hourly rate is $45 and I have very good paint discounts which I pass on directly to clients. I am happy to do house lots or small jobs. So, after 2 years of not having to advertise I am looking for more work now, particularly inside with winter upon us. If you want a high quality job, no short cuts taken and a win/win for both parties, I look forward to discussing what you have in mind. Attached are some recent jobs. Ceiling work, blonding of doors making old varnished doors more modern, a complete repaint of a two storied large apartment, and a large exterior job. Cheers John 021 102 8646

"This is a vicious cycle as the lack of sleep impairs our ability to concentrate and make good decisions. It can impact our food choices as well as our motivation to exercise and keep moving the following day" says New Zealand sleep expert Rachel Lehen.

On an average an adult should have a well rested sleep of 7-9 hours. An uncomfortable mattress, sleeping position, and even excessive use of blue light before bed can be the cause of an unhealthy sleep cycle.
Begin the journey to a healthy sleeping habit by popping into one of our 13 Beds4U store and our sleep experts will help you find the right mattress :)

Hi everyone,
We're looking into how some common claims about NZ stack up and would be interested in your thoughts on whether New Regent Street in Christchurch deserves its title of 'NZ's most beautiful street'. Do you think it is the best-looking street in the country? Or is there another street you think is more beautiful? Please put 'NFP' (not for publication) in your comment if you do not want it included in an article. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.

We have a good sized, unfurnished double room to let. Located at Campbells Bay, a prestigious suburb and very close to one of the best beaches (300m) on the shore and next to Centennial Park, tennis club and golf course. Great walks everywhere.
The room is warm and very clean with lots of afternoon sun. Has a large double wardrobe and security lock on the window. It is part of a large separate flat located downstairs and has all it’s own facilities including cooking area and a log burner for heating. The area is shared with a professional couple in their mid twenties. Owners live upstairs with cat and friendly dog.
We are looking for someone who is clean, tidy, respectful of others and not broke. Bus stops, both ways, are located virtually at the door.
Rent is $290.00 per week, all inclusive, except a winter tariff of $10.00 per week between May and October for firewood and extra power charges. Optic fibre is connected. References would be good but not entirely essential if you are a new arrival to this beautiful country.

A rāhui over Motutapu Island is set to continue indefinitely, while an elusive stoat continues to wreak havoc with the island’s wildlife.

The pest-free island was placed under rāhui (ban) for 30 days by iwi Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki on May 18 as the Department of Conservation worked to curb a stoat outbreak – the fourth since May 2020.

Just two stoats have been caught since then, DOC incursion response advisor Claire Warren said.

No stoats have been captured since the rāhui commenced, Warren said, however genetic analysis of stoat faeces confirmed the presence of one male stoat on the island.

Ferry services to Rangitoto Island are not affected by the rāhui, however campsite bookings for the Motutapu Island campsite are unavailable.
