MetService is monitoring a weather system that may coincide with king tides expected over the weekend. This will cause flooding in low-lying coastal areas, particularly around the high-tides on Sunday.

There is also the possibility of a deep low moving southeastwards over the upper North Island during Sunday, delivering severe gale easterlies to exposed parts of the area.

- People are advised to keep up to date with the latest MetService forecasts in case some parts of this Watch are upgraded to a full weather warning, or other areas are added.
- Take extra precautions along the coast, consider your travel routes and never drive through floodwaters.
- Auckland Emergency Managment warned travellers to take extra precautions along the coast, consider travel routes and to never drive through floodwaters.
- Read more about the impending weather here.

Note, King tides and large northeast swell are forecast during this time. The combination of strong easterly winds and lowering air pressures associated with such a deep low could cause an inundation to coasts exposed to the north and east.

The New Zealand Human Rights Act includes sexual orientation as a prohibited ground of discrimination but the couple said they won't be approaching a lawyer. What do you think? Should they take out legal action?

Hi neighbours,

What do you think of NZ's new P-8 Poseidon planes? The defence force are set to buy four new maritime surveillance aircraft, with submarine hunting capability, worth $2.3 billion. The Boeing P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol planes will be delivered by 2023, and will replace the ageing P-3 Orions.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force Squadron No.5 will also shift from Whenuapai to Ohakea as "ageing" Orion aircraft are phased out.

Do you thinks it's a good move? Or should the money have been spent elsewhere? Let us know in the replies!

Countdown supermarkets are recalling a frozen vegetable mix as a precaution amid fears it could contain a particularly dangerous strain of listeria that has been linked to nine deaths overseas.

The Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) confirmed the recalled products have been traced back to a Hungarian facility, known to be the source of the listeria.

A Countdown spokeswoman said the supermarket had been advised there was a potential risk its Bell Farms Steam Veggies, Carrot, Corn and Broccoli bags contained the bacteria.

The company withdrew one batch of the Bell Farms frozen vegetables on Friday from all Countdown, SuperValue, and FreshChoice stores and has since recalled all batches of the product. Anyone who has purchased this product can return it to any of our stores for a full refund.

Frozen vegetables generally pose no risk if cooked correctly before eating, she said. Listeria can cause illness in pregnant woman and their unborn babies, newborns, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.

Information on the recall is available here. More information on food safety and listeria can be found here.
