Many doctors and podiatrists believe that surgery is the only way to fix a bunion. This is not true. The Ministry of Education planned to fell the trees – five pōhutukawa and one Norfolk pine – at Campbells Bay School in Auckland early this year.
The plans prompted parents and local residents to launch a petition calling for the trees to be saved, and instead design a building which preserves them.
But this month, the Ministry of Education has shared new plans for the classroom block.
It will be set back an additional 4.5 metres from the school’s fence on Aberdeen Rd, meaning the six trees will remain, with some limited root reduction and canopy trimming.

Even Google Maps don't know the name of the reserve. We have mooted to the Auckland Council for a couple of years to erect signs at both ends of the park so people know what it is called. No action taken. The name also has historical significance being named after one of the early landowners in the area. Also we have asked the council that solar lighting be erected on the pathway as it can be dark and unsafe at times. People are using the park in their early morning walks and after being dropped of from the bus that services Beach Rd. We envision lighting that will not only light up the pathway but the trees along the path which can be quite attractive. To get the council to take action needs a lot of voices telling them that this is what us as ratepayers want. Please take time and ring them on their hotline 301 01 01.
