Ailing poplar trees felled: Mt Roskill
A poplar on Mt Roskill's Somerset Rd is destined for the axe.
The tree is set to be removed this week due to deteriorating health.
Another poplar in the street was axed in April to remove the health and safety risk to pedestrians and students from a school nearby.
Puketapapa Local Board chair Julie Fairey said the board was active in supporting planting in the district and knew how much the community valued trees.
“Unfortunately, the state of these two trees on Somerset Rd means we have to remove them sooner than we had hoped.
"The removal will ensure the poplars are looked after as they come to the end of their natural lives and appropriate trees can grow in their space in the future for everyone in the community to enjoy and benefit from.”
