Forrest Hill Community Garden, Coming soon
We are a couple of garden enthusiasts and hopeless romantics. We can’t bear the idea of a bunch of great people in Forrest Hill staying behind their fences and not knowing each other.
Our dream is to create a garden in Seine Road reserve which will be a place to learn to grow organic food, and a place to get to know our neighbours. It will be a beautiful space, a learning space, a place to get stuck in, and a place to experience what community can really be.
As with many things in life, good things take time. We have been working with the council since 2018, and we were granted permission late 2019. There are a few more steps in the process but we are hoping to break ground at Seine Reserve, Forrest Hill, in spring or early summer.
There are plenty of ways you can participate in this project. You might be an avid gardener, just interested in learning more or you love getting stuck into a project. If that is you, we would love to have you involved. And if you know a local business who is keen to get behind us, please let them know to reach out.
You can find us on social media or visit our website to find out more. You might also want to sign up to our mailing list to get regular updates.

Poll: Should complete designs be shared with the public, or should the community help shape the designs from the start?
The Post recently shared an opinion piece on the Harbour Crossing and why a more democratic approach might be needed 🚗🚲👟
While most decisions sit within the political arena, many organisations—like NZTA—manage long-term projects that go beyond party lines. Politics can sometimes disrupt progress, and the next Harbour Crossing is a big decision that will affect all Aucklanders.
We’d love your thoughts: Should near-complete, shovel-ready designs be shared with the public, or should the community have a hand in shaping the designs from the start?
-
0% Community feedback and transparency is needed.
-
0% No. This would be impossible in practice.
Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?
As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
-
59.6% Yes, supporting people is important!
-
25.9% No, individuals should take responsibility
-
14.5% ... It is complicated
