Howick elections

Carl from Whitford

This is an open letter to the various candidates standing in the Howick by-election. I am using Neighbourly in the hope I can make contact this way. We see your posters around the parish but very few of us have any ideas what you stand for. We would like to understand your motivations and areas where you think you can make a difference. In particular I would like your views on the following to help us decide who to vote for:
1). Auckland fuel tax
2). The non-business and water quality targeted rate that without consultation has been rushed through and slapped upon many local properties who are 'off the grid' with regards water and sewerage. My comment here is that we pay for the upkeep and servicing of our own water and sewerage systems. In charging us for a non-business and water quality targeted rate I am assuming we get something for our money?

3) The poor state and safety issues with many of our rural roads brought about in part by heavy traffic due to development.
4). Mayor Goff's non consultative authoritarian government style. Are you prepared to fight for constitutional accountability and on what points?

Poll: Should you ask before planting tall shrubs/trees near your property line?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

It may be fine now but in a few years trees can block out light or views for neighbours.

Do you think neighbours should ask before they go ahead and plant these?
