Our leaders are elected by us to govern over a term.
and not for what they did last Tuesday. or didn't do on next Wednesday.
The way in which dissenting opinions to any governing body are couched post-covid in New Zealand has become increasingly belligerent, aggressive and toxic.
All helped in great part by those drongo's in the media, especially radio and primetime news seeking salacious and sensational headlines. The mainstream media is feeding topics to social media who are in turn feeding the mainstream media's editorial focus.
I don't care what the polls or the radio hosts say about our Mayor today, but it has spawned a lot of vitriol on social media et al and will continue to build resentment in the aggrieved. Our mainstream media needs to stop creating news that generates dissent and disharmony in the community.
Because none of this shit will unelect the Mayor no matter how many polls and calls to action there are. I think this amplification will make the job of running Auckland a lot harder for him.
And most importantly Why? Why does thinly populated New Zealand need such an aggressive media? Yes holding a government to account for it's policies and actions is the Media's job. But It can be done with civility and result in a better informed electorate at the ballot box, which is also the media's job.

Hi
After this latest storm i need to move my family. We rent. The house is two story. We have had a leak come in the lower floor room twice now. It's a old house and there has been wooden slats/boards put on top of concrete and the water is coming under them. Its starting to move further into our room. I came home from shopping on Friday to find water in our room and leaking water from the top floor. Carpet saturated again. Our property manager doesn't take any of this seriously and i have had enough. We can't really stay here because our dad is in a wheel chair and is being cared for at home with us. So for his sake we need to move. But unfortunately it needs to be into a home that has two living quarters for the two families that like to stay together to help care for him. Please if anyone has such a place in central Auckland that would suit especially the blockhouse bay /hills borough area we will be stoked.
We are good paying tenants and just want somewhere warm and dry. We have a dog and a old grumpy cat but we love her. Catch me anytime.
Julia - Plus thanks everyone for the feed back on the water rates seems water is on all our minds at the moment take.

Already ferries have been cancelled, there are power outages and drivers are being cautioned about driving in these conditions. From 3pm, a severe thunderstorm watch is in place, as well as a strong wind watch until 8pm on Friday night.

Here's what you need to know:
- All Pine Harbour ferry services have now been cancelled until further notice, due to weather conditions. The 7am, 8am & 9am Pine Harbour to Auckland services will be replaced by Bus.
- Areas of North Auckland around Te Arai are without power as of 6.20am on Friday. Some areas near the Auckland border have had power cuts since at least 3am on Friday.
- Drivers heading over the Auckland Harbour Bridge advised by Waka Kotahi NZTA to watch out for strong gusts and wind. Commuters should drive to the conditions, look out for full bridge closures, and stay within their lane while travelling across the bridge. High-sided vehicles and motorcyclists should avoid the Harbour Bridge and use the Western Ring Route on State Highways 16 and 18.

Keep up to date with weather warnings on the MetService website and be cautious if travelling this Auckland Anniversary weekend.
