Poll: Driving drowsy causes 20% of accidents - have you fallen asleep at the wheel before?

Darren from Parnell

A recent Australian study found that 20% of car accidents were caused by drowsy drivers and 1 in 6 drivers admit to falling asleep at the wheel (www.drive.com.au...). How do you solve this? It's a mixture of medical issues (e.g. sleep apnoea), physical issues (e.g. tired muscles), mental issues (e.g. stress), and lifestyle choices (e.g. staying up too late). A solution is to do some online training, e.g. www.drivingtests.co.nz... to make a start in managing fatigue and your sleep, then see a sleep psychologist or sleep surgeon if a more detailed diagnosis is required. There are also resources published by WorkSafe, NZTA and SiteSafe as well as various unions and advocacy organisations that are specific to different industries and jobs. But what is your story? Have you fallen asleep while driving, even if just for a few seconds?

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
