Give a Kid a Blanket 2018
Give a Kid a Blanket is a Community Activated Art Action conceived and lead by artists Donna Turtle Sarten & Bernie Harfleet, who with help from the community collect blankets and deliver them and other warm items to kids through public health nurses, social workers and family support workers.
We need a space that is at least 150m2 - 200m2. approx.
For the last two years we have used industrial type warehouses.
We would be using this space to bring all donated goods back to to be sorted and orders made up and then either transported out by us or health workers would be coming there to pick up from us.
We would need sole and 24 hour access and it would need to be safe to work in and come out from at night. We tend to do 14 hour days over June/July. Ground floor would be ideal as there is the issue of unpacking and packing a ute or van and lots of heavy lifting. A big ask we know but better to say what we need.
We have been lucky to be loaned industrial buildings for the last two years. We may have to look at paying for a sort term lease this year. One problem is most funding organisations require you to be a charitable trust, we are not, but rather two artists that have managed to capture the idea of a simple act of kindness over an ever growing community the project has created.
All the best if anyone has some ideas please email us ay badwakk@xtra.co.nz
In 2017 we are started collecting from the 1st June till 23rd July.
This year(2017) We gave out 8416 blankets.
With what seemed to be an even harder winter for many kids, with families in NZ facing the winter cold in cars, garages, sleep out’s and damp cold housing, we hope we were able to help more families keep warm this winter.
Poll: 🤖 What skills do you think give a CV the ultimate edge in a robot-filled workplace?
The Reserve Bank has shared some pretty blunt advice: there’s no such thing as a “safe” job anymore 🛟😑
Robots are stepping into repetitive roles in factories, plants and warehouses. AI is taking care of the admin tasks that once filled many mid-level office jobs.
We want to know: As the world evolves, what skills do you think give a CV the ultimate edge in a robot-filled workplace?

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?
As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
-
59.7% Yes, supporting people is important!
