Ponsonby Primary School and buildings in the 1960's, what are your memories ?
I attended Ponsonby Primary School in 1962- 63, have great memories of Ponsonby Road with the trolley buses, passing Lambournes, Velva Dry Cleaners, the old Britannia picture theatre etc. I even worked for Velva Dry Cleaners and Marriotts grocery store as a young teenager, we lived in 7 Cowan Street and that is the street with the Anglican church on the corner (All Saints Church). Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
