Stolen mountain bike

Jenny from Northcote Point

Hi. I have just had my mountain bike stolen from my garage in Northcote Point. It is 6 months old. A Liv intrigue dual suspension small frame. I understand there have been a few bikes stolen in the neighbourhood 🥲. If anyone sees it would appreciate any leads. Thanks so much.

Beef, ordered from here

McDonald's

For delicious grass-raised beef New Zealand is the perfect combo. An ideal climate, lush pastures and innovative farming produces enough beef for Macca’s in New Zealand and around the world.

Our patties are 100% quality beef, and all that’s added is a dash of salt and pepper when cooked.

Future of Rubbish

On 14 October, Auckland Council is going to be considering whether to adopt a standard method across Auckland, or continue with a mix. They will also be considering whether to reduce the number of collections from weekly to fortnightly after the food scrap collection begins in 2023.

A recent review by Council has found that:
* there is NO evidence that Pay-As-You-Throw reduces the amount of rubbish per household, and
* Pay-As-You-Throw is "less cost-effective for the council than rates-funded solutions because of more complex systems, duplication of workloads by multiple suppliers, and the council's need to offer the service to properties across the entire region."
* Pay-As-You-Throw results in "more truck kilometres per year to deliver the service, resulting in worse outcomes for vehicle emissions, road wear, street amenity, health and safety and traffic congestion".

On Wednesday the Kaipātiki Local Board resolved that it:
* supports a transition to a rates-funded refuse service
* supports moving the general rubbish collection from weekly to fortnightly (3 board members including myself opposed this)
* supports retaining bins rather than bags for general waste
* supports retaining a fortnightly rates-funded recycling service
* supports the introduction of a rates-funded food scrap collection
* request that the council work with the Government to put a greater onus of reducing waste onto manufacturers and retailers, through systems such as the German Green Dot (Der Grüne Punkt) scheme
* requests that the council work with other councils in New Zealand to develop consistency in recycling practices.

This feedback and feedback from other local boards will now go to council's Environment and Climate Change Committee on 14 October to make a decision on the way forward.
If that decision is to change from the planned move to PAYT for everyone, then there will be public consultation in 2022/23.

If you'd like more info on the review and the conclusions it came to, you can read the memo here:

Te Reo Names for our Parks

Some parks will officially have dual names (both Te Reo and English names), while others will have sole Te Reo names.
Last week the local board approved Shepherds Park, Beach Haven, as being a flagship park with dual naming and full bi-lingual signage throughout the park that will be celebrated with a whakarewatanga/launch event. This is expected to be later this year or early next year.
The local board also approved the name "Wai Manawa" as the official Te Reo name for the whole Little Shoal Bay Reserve and Le Roys Bush Reserve area. Wai Manawa had previously been included as part of the name identified by mana whenua for the Birkenhead lookout Kaimataara ō Wai Manawa, which looks out over Le Roys Bush Reserve. New signage will be installed throughout Le Roys and Little Shoal Bay reflecting the dual names.

Hello everyone,
I am looking for a small garage/room/outhouse in Takapuna or Davenport to house some electrical equipment. It should have a separate entrance and be secure. Most of all it should be clean and have no insulation challenges. Hoping for a peppercorn rate but can consider something meaningful down the line.

Please message me if you have any suggestions too.
Thanks

Kaipatiki Local Board members have had a workshop on options for stage 3 of the track upgrade at Kauri Glen Reserve from Kauri Glen Road through to both Tui Glen Road and Raymond Terrace. These tracks have been closed for a while to protect kauri trees.
There are two options to upgrade and reopen the connection, while protecting kauri in the area. The options will be coming to our October meeting for a decision, and if supported, work should begin later this year or early next year and take up to 10 months to complete.

* Option 1: A tree-top high boardwalk with a 60m long, 18m high glulam bridge that will enable a scenic step-free walk between Kauri Glen Road and Tui Glen Road (the portion to Raymond Terrace will have steps).
* Option 2: A staircase and boardwalk following a similar route to the existing track, with a 10m bridge at the bottom of the gully.
* Option 3: Permanently close the tracks.

Option 1 is preferred by Te Kawerau a Maki, Northcote College and Kauri Glen Bush Society Incorporated.
