And in my new neighbourhood!
Whichever opportunist hit up Kurahaupo Street last week, you took a present from the lovely lady who's standing in for my recently late mum.
She was trying to cheer me up this Christmas!
I wasn't planning on celebrating this year, but getting her package would have been welcome respite from how much Michael Bublé annoys me now.
In fact, the last package my actual mother sent before she passed was stolen, too (from Mt. Eden, then).
I know I'm from a super polite country (Canada), but I hail from its most crime-riddled city -- and yet Auckland is the only place I've had my mail stolen. I could pull my hair out and make Christmas ornaments with it at this point!
If you have any tips on what you do, aside from make sure there's a signature on all your couriers and get a big lockable letter box, I'm all ears.
Here's my tip for all us neighbours in the meantime:
Let's look out for each other, eh? If you deliver mail and time allows, be awesome and kind this Christmas and go the extra few meters up the drive to leave it at the door if that's more out of sight and safe. If you see a neighbour's package looking more obvious than clickbait on Stuff, do the same for them.
It feels good to be a good Samaritan and you never know how much a Christmas pressy can mean to someone :)
Have a safe and happy holiday my neighbours!
