Bus driver shortage on Waiheke Island

Melanie Earley Reporter from Central Leader

Hi neighbours, a bus driver shortage on Waiheke Island has forced some services to be cancelled.
The Waiheke Bus Company (WBC) told Auckland Transport, despite "big efforts" and a local recruitment campaign, there was still a lack of drivers which was affecting its ability to provide the full schedule of services on Waiheke. AT's Bus Services Manager Darek Koper said some services between Matiatia and Onetangi would have to be cancelled.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
