A Vector spokeswoman said up to 1000 Auckland homes had been affected by power outages. In Titirangi, these weather changes led to vegetation interfering with one of the high-voltage lines but we're hoping to have power restored by 4pm.

With the temporary suspension of the Packaging Forum’s Soft Plastics Recycling Scheme from 31 December 2018, Auckland Council is encouraging Aucklanders to make efforts to reduce their consumption of soft plastics.
There is a high risk of illness from swimming at several Auckland beaches, according to the Safeswim website. The Safeswim modelling predicts when water quality exceeds national guidelines for swimming. Check safeswim.org.nz for Auckland’s best swimming spots this summer.

Any pool, fixed or portable, deeper than 400mm is now subject to safety provisions under the Building Act, meaning there a quite a few rules you probably aren't even aware of.

Korean man Myung Kang went missing at the beach on Saturday January 5th.
The 57-year-old’s white 2011 Toyota Prius has since been found in the Bethells Beach car park.
Detective Senior Sergeant Callum McNeill is urging anyone who may have seen Mr Kang to contact Police.
“Saturday was a hot day and a large number of people took the opportunity to spend some time at Bethells Beach, so we are hopeful that someone has seen Mr Kang with his fishing gear,” he says.
