Housing

Natalie from Dannemora

Saw this on Facebook from Damian Light. Sharing this for anyone in East Auckland who cares about how our neighbourhoods grow.

Auckland Council has released the draft plans for their new proposal for housing intensification.

This is in response to the legislation that has just passed through Parliament allowing Auckland one chance to replace Plan Change 78. The replacement has to enable the same capacity (2million homes) which is proposed to be more focused around town centres and rapid transport. This was the direction provided by the Governing Body (Mayor and Councillors), Local Boards haven't had any input until now.

Due to the exceptionally short timeframes required by Parliament, there won't be a full public consultation prior to notification (which must be by 10 October). Local Boards are expecting to have next week to respond and we'll confirm the plan for Howick Local Board on Thursday 21 August.

Now we have the maps, I'll do some analysis of the changes and what it might mean for our communities.

In the meantime, the agenda, maps and supporting materials are available here: infocouncil.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz...

There's more detail about how we got here in my previous post:

Time to Tickle Your Thinker 🧠

The Riddler from The Neighbourly Riddler

If a zookeeper had 100 pairs of animals in her zoo, and two pairs of babies are born for each one of the original animals, then (sadly) 23 animals don’t survive, how many animals do you have left in total?

Do you think you know the answer? Simply 'Like' this post and we'll post the answer in the comments below at 2pm on the day!

Poll: As a customer, what do you think about automation?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The Press investigates the growing reliance on your unpaid labour.

Automation (or the “unpaid shift”) is often described as efficient ... but it tends to benefit employers more than consumers.

We want to know: What do you think about automation?

Poll: Do you think Auckland Council is doing enough to help households safely dispose of hard-to-recycle waste?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

How do we Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle the hard stuff?
We’re talking tyres, paint, and agricultural chemicals — the items that aren’t always easy to dispose of.

Recently featured in The Post, this innovative business is showing how waste can be transformed into opportunity, turning what we throw away into products.

But this raises a bigger question: how do we get our waste to the right people — the ones doing the right things with it?
♻️ Do you think Auckland Council is doing enough to help households safely dispose of hard-to-recycle waste and get it back into the supply chain?

We’d love to hear your thoughts.
