A new park and playground for Hobsonville Point will be voted on by Auckland Council on Thursday.

The park will be located on 60 Clark Road in the Te Uru Precinct, and feature hop scotch markings, a picnic set, and solar lights along pathways.

Upper Harbour Local Board deputy chair Lisa Whyte said the park is part of the wider Hobsonville Point open space network.

“The intent is that each of the parks contribute something different so by the time that it’s fully developed we’ve got something for everyone within a walkable distance,” she said.

The park will be constructed by Fletchers Residential Limited, and be taken on as an asset by Auckland Council upon completion.

Whyte said open spaces, playgrounds and connectivity of walkways are all part of what makes a neighbourhood special.

“This park will be somewhere for people to go to play hopscotch, kick a ball around and run around to let off steam,” she said.

“It’s a little outdoor space in an area where people don’t have very big back gardens.”

The park will cover 537m² of land and incorporate wheelchair access to cater for older residents.

If approved the park is expected to be completed in the 2020/2021 financial year.

Maintenance of the park will begin five years after completion, and cost around $1653 a year.
