Basic Technology Course for Young and Old – Browns Bay Relaxed Environment

Gavin from Browns Bay

The first course was launched recently, on 4th June this year and the students are loving it and has proven to be extremely popular. Thus, we are offering again to anyone who wants to join and open to all ages. Don’t worry if you have no clue on technology, we will teach you at a rate you are comfortable.

Most of my career I have been working with and in blue chip technology companies. As an IT Program Manager, I have encountered so many diverse technologies which can be overwhelming, but as one learns to take one step at a time, a person becomes used to the new technology and we then embrace its benefits and become a real fan for what it can do for us.

In my social group I am in regular contact with those older than myself who are bright, engaging and active. However when it comes to their iPad, tablet, laptop or smartphone these devices can seem very overwhelming and a sense of pain crosses over their eyes as these devices hold so much promise for them but can be such a massive wall to climb just to do the basics.

So, I would like to offer a 12-lesson basic tech course to help the new Student, Mom and Dad or Grandma and Grandpa to grasp the basics of their own technology. The idea of these classes is for each one to bring to class their preferred technology (smartphone/tablet/laptop) and then to step through the basics of how it works, what it needs to be connected to and what Apps or software is needed.

The course designed by myself, is to help you understand how to use your own technology device comfortably and the various applications such as Skype, email, WhatsApp, Zoom, FaceTime, the internet and office explorer files and more.

The first day of the course is registration and an overview and the journey we will take together and to book your place on this popular course securing your place with the $25 registration fee.

The following courses are offered:

1. Technology – The Basics 1 (Your Smartphone & Software) of 12 sessions/6 weeks commencing 2-Jul 20

2. Technology – The Basics 2 (Software & Hardware) of 12 sessions/6 weeks commencing 2-Jul 20

3. Technology – Intermediate 1 (Security & Network) commencing TBA

4. Technology – Intermediate 2 (Infrastructure) commencing TBA

I am based in Browns Bay and training will take place in a comfortable homely environment in a classroom style set up to optimise training facilitation. Notes will be provided of each session.

This course will run weekly at a very affordable cost of $20 + Gst per lesson and anyone can stop or join at any time. As mentioned above the first session is for administration and registration costs of $25 to secure your place. There is no need to pay for a full course, only pay for the day you attend. Once you have completed the course in full, you will be presented with a certificate of completion of Technology - The Basics 1 or 2. A nice to have if you want to venture to start working again or to show your family and friends.

The Basics 1 course will run during the day on a twice weekly basis for 1.15mins (Thursdays & Fridays Mornings 11am – 12.15pm). The Basics 2 course will run during the day on a twice weekly basis for 1.15mins (Thursdays & Fridays Afternoons 2pm – 3.15pm).

Poll: Should all neighbours have to contribute to improvements?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

An Auckland court has ruled a woman doesn’t have to contribute towards the cost of fixing a driveway she shares with 10 neighbours.

When thinking about fences, driveways or tree felling, for example, do you think all neighbours should have to pay if the improvements directly benefit them?
