Maritime NZ Northern Regional Compliance Manager, Neil Rowarth, said Mr Hutchings had put the lives of others in danger by acting recklessly.
The collision caused all three people on board Mr Hutchings’ boat, Maraetai Star, to fall to the deck. Mr Hutchings was knocked unconscious and received a broken nose. One crew member was also rendered unconscious and received a cut to his head while the other crew member suffered a bruised hip.

You must be a New Zealand resident and over 18 years of age to enter this draw, Cristal Air International Limited trading as HRV (HRV), Vector Limited and associated employees and contractors are not eligible to enter.
The promotion commences on 8th July and concludes on 31st August 2019.
Eligible entries are for any domestic household that buys an HRV home ventilation system between July 8th and 31st August and has it installed by 15th September.
The prize consists of four adult return economy class airfares to Hawaii from Auckland, including transfers to and from Auckland & Honolulu airport and twin share accommodation in a 4 star hotel for seven nights to a maximum prize value to $10,000.
Promotion excludes spending money, meals and domestic travel to/from Auckland Airport and any Auckland accommodation while waiting for flights.
Promotion must be redeemed within 12 months.
The competition winner will be drawn on 30th September at 45 O’Rorke Rd, Penrose Auckland. The winner will be notified by phone or email. In the event the prize remains unclaimedafter 1 month, the prize will be redrawn.
