ROSSINI BARBER OF SEVILLE Overture
TCHAIKOVSKY PIANO CONCERTO NO 1
ADRIEN DE CROY (NZ) SYMPHONY NO 1 ‘THE RESOLUTE’ World Premiere

UWE GRODD Conductor
SHAN LIU Piano

After last year’s standing ovation for Rachmaninov 2, we are thrilled to welcome back the prodigious 14-year-old pianist Shan Liu. Performing Tchaikovsky’s iconic Piano Concerto No. 1, with its unmistakable and electrifying opening, Shan’s return promises a thrilling display of passion and virtuosity.

Composed between 2021 and 2023 - a time marked by unprecedented global challenges - Adrien de Croy’s Symphony No. 1, The Resolute delves into the human condition under the weight of turmoil. With tension crackling through each movement, this symphony takes listeners on a journey of endurance, resilience, and the indomitable human spirit. The Resolute is not only a reflection of external struggles but also an intimate exploration of the inner battle for hope amid chaos, conveying a shared experience of a world in flux and the possibility of renewal.

The evening opens with Rossini's playful Barber of Seville Overture, setting the stage for an unforgettable night of music.

Join us for a FREE pre-show talk with composer Adrien de Croy and conductor Uwe Grodd, held in the theater at 6:45 pm, to explore the inspiration and themes behind The Resolute.

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Auckland has a thriving cafe culture, but with costs climbing, that culture is under pressure. We’ve seen the headlines about recent closures across the country, and it’s a tough pill to swallow along with a $6+ coffee.

We all want our favourite spots to stay open, but we also have to balance our own budgets ⚖️

We want to know: How are you handling the "coffee math" in 2026? Are you still heading to your local for a chat and a caffeine fix, or has the cost of living changed your habits?

Keen to read more about "coffee math"? The Post has you covered.
