Dear Friends,
Gardening Day is on again this coming Sunday 4th July from 9.00am to 11.00am at our village garden. We will also spend some time in the Rangatira Walkway into Beach haven School as we look after that area as well, so it is beautiful for our children as they go to school, and provides food for insects and birds. It needs a good seasonal tidy up.
Please bring a bucket for weeds, some weeding tools, etc. and any plants you want to plant.

See you in the garden around 9.00am 😊

Top Tip - Xero's Best Feature - A Best Kept Secret

It is a mystery to me why this feature is not used more often. I have yet to see a new client transfer across to Epiphany Accounting Solutions either as a bookkeeping client or an accounting client with this feature previously used.

GST Reconciliation - In your Xero you will find the tab GST Reconciliation. Here you can enter the amounts you have filed GST for sales and purchases with IRD. It shows you what has been paid, journals that have impacted GST, what GST is held in debtors and creditors and finally how much is owing in GST. You can then use this to reconcile with your GST balance sheet account.

The only reason I can think of as to why this feature is not used is that it has a flaw - in that it is not intuitive. Once you have entered your GST return information and saved, happy with your return. Next return time when you click on GST Reconciliation the information has disappeared. I can only imagine the number of people who give up on this feature at this point. But there is a trick!

Save your GST Reconciliation as published. When you are ready to do your next return go to Reports - Published. Click open your last return and at the bottom left hand side select copy and edit. Extend the date range to include your next return date and update.

Once you have completed your latest GST reconciliation, remember to SAVE as published. So easy. I hope this tip helps you manage your Xero Small Business GST with ease.

Of course if you need any assistance please reach out to me at info@epiphanyaccountingsolutions.co.nz and I am very happy to help you.

The lower half of Kauri Road (Off Balmain Road) was formally renamed by the Kaipatiki Local Board in April, and now the new street sign has been installed, and the street is showing correctly on Google Maps. This should hopefully solve the issues that residents were having with emergency services, couriers and visitors not being able to find their properties due to Kauri Road being split in the middle by bush.
Thanks to Local Board member Adrian Tyler for raising this issue on behalf of residents kickstarting the name-change process.

NOTE: The properties near the entrance of Soldiers Bay Place that have been using a Balmain Road address have the option to change to a Soldiers Bay Place address by contacting the Kaipātiki Local Board, or continue to use their current Balmain Road address.

This month we’re celebrating the diverse array of people who call New Zealand home. Regardless of our different faiths, abilities, cultures, ages, orientations and genders - we want to make sure that our communities are safe and welcoming for all.

There are many ways to take part! From hosting a multicultural potluck or film screening to providing prevention information / resources in other languages, there are thousands of ways big and small to make our households, neighbourhoods, schools and businesses even more inclusive. It could even be as simple as learning from a neighbour how to say ‘hello’ in their first language or ensuring local footpaths are clear and accessible.

Want to share your thoughts? Let us know how you’re creating inclusive communities this month by tagging us in your social media posts or emailing us your photos, videos, or experiences to:

Glenfield Primary Safe School Streets Trial on Chivalry Road:
For the next few months, Auckland Transport will be trialling temporary measures around Glenfield Primary School, designed to reduce vehicle speeds.
The changes include a simplified road layout, kerb build-outs to slow traffic, and artwork to signal that this is a school area and slow speeds/extra care is needed. These changes have been developed in consultation with the Glenfield Primary School.

CONSTRUCTION:
The changes are being constructed overnight (7pm to 6pm) this week. During the construction period, there may be machinery noise, restrictions on parking, and traffic control in place.

TRIAL:
The trial will include:
* School zone markings, flexible bollards as well as new speed cushion pads which act as a visual cue to drivers that they are entering a slow speed area
* A new drop-off and pick-up zone inside the Glenfield Primary School carpark indicated by a purple painted kerb and signage
* Cycle lanes painted with a unique theme chosen by Glenfield Primary School which will help emphasise the presence of school children in the area
* Pedestrian wayfinding street art chosen by Glenfield Primary School to help direct the flow of foot traffic, particularly when children are arriving and leaving
