Some had fallen and suffered painful injuries, others stood for long periods of time hoping pedestrians would help them, and my heart melted when I heard some residents had withdrawn from the Browns Bay community and their social networks for fear of crossing busy Beach Road.
Fast forward to today, and I so pleased to share that AT will be commencing work on the Bute Road roundabout to provide significant safety improvements for these residents and fellow pedestrians.
It is likely that these works will create some quite significant disruptions for commuters over the coming weeks, so if you can, you may want to try an alternative route. AT sometimes have a mind of their own when it comes to projects, but this one, I know, will add tremendous value to a number of people’s lives.
I’m sorry for the chaos this might create while the works are undertaken, but the gain this will add to some of our residents’ lives is unquestionable.
Works start 28th March 2022 and is expected to be completed by the end of July 2022.

With overseas tourists set to return to NZ shortly, we're looking at doing a light-hearted piece on the odd questions Kiwis have been asked about NZ. You may have seen the post doing the rounds on social media at the moment asking whether English is spoken here and suggesting NZ is a state of Australia (see below). Have you ever been asked anything surprising about NZ? Feel free to message me or comment below. Please put 'NFP' (not for publication) in your comment if you do not want it or your name included in the article. Thanks very much for your help and happy travels.

As a retired driving instructor I used to own one of Auckland's well known driving schools. I am now offering parents my driving lessons experience for free with all the tips and tricks on how to pass a driving test. Most parents do a great job of coaching their children but don't have the tools to get up to test standard.
Please Note : I am no longer taking people out in a car for driving lessons but have decided to do this neighbourly gesture for mums and dads :-)
