I don't want to call it 'over charging', but...???

Director / lawyer from Kiwilaw

Spluttering - have just learnt from a new client that another South Island lawyer (not Chch or North Canterbury) quoted $1500+GST+disbursements for a simple probate application. 'Disbursements' includes the $200 High Court fee.

My fee is $400 incl GST and courier to client. The client pays the High Court direct and pays for their own courier to the High Court.

It takes about 10 minutes of legal work, ie considering the information in the will and the information provided by the client, and ensuring that all legal requirements are met. The rest is secretarial or office work, or profit.

I am using technology to do most of the secretarial or office work for me. It takes me about 15 minutes to do what technology can't yet do.

Even at lawyer rates, slightly more than $300+GST is a good fee for 30 minutes' work.

The problem is - it looks 'too good to be true'. People are looking at my website but not taking up the offer. I need to make it more believable, with screen shots and maybe a video. I'll be working on that, over the next 2 weeks or so.

Robots are stepping into repetitive roles in factories, plants and warehouses. AI is taking care of the admin tasks that once filled many mid-level office jobs.

We want to know: As the world evolves, what skills do you think give a CV the ultimate edge in a robot-filled workplace?

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
