New Zealand Riding for the Disabled Association (NZRDA) is an association of Member Groups. It is a, not-for-profit organisation which provides opportunities for anyone with a disability to enjoy safe, healthy, stimulating, therapeutic horse riding and horse-related activities in New Zealand. The Whakatu Riding for the Disabled Association Group is located at the top end of the Brook Valley, serving the needs of Nelson and its suburbs. The Centre is committed to promoting challenge and achievement for young people with disabilities and to promoting horse riding as a beneficial physical and remedial therapy, in collaboration with the medical profession. As a charity, the Centre depends on volunteers to assist the trained staff. Volunteers come from all backgrounds, some with no previous horse experience, some come for an hour a week while others may do more than a day a week. But we need more! Volunteers also come at all ages, from teenagers to the elderly. Full training is given.
