Hunua Gorge goes down to one lane from Sunday 16 August

Just a reminder that a section of Hunua Gorge will be going down to one lane from Sunday 16 August, whilst Watercare constructs a new water pipe and rebuilds Papakura Water Treatment plant.

The section affected is the intersection of Dominion Road/Hūnua Road and Papakura Water Treatment Plant.

Just a reminder that a section of Hunua Gorge will be going down to one lane from Sunday 16 August, whilst Watercare constructs a new water pipe and rebuilds Papakura Water Treatment plant.

The section affected is the intersection of Dominion Road/Hūnua Road and Papakura Water Treatment Plant.

Traffic management will be in place. Cyclists are recommended to take an alternative route.

Expect waiting times of around 20 minutes.

The work will allow Watercare to start drawing water from Hays Creek dam, which will add to Auckland's water supply.

Free public tours of Watercare's Upper Mangatawhiri Dam in the Hunua ranges

Watercare is inviting Aucklanders to come and learn about the dams in the Hunua ranges and see one of New Zealand's largest native forest planting projects.



Date: Saturday 16, November

Watercare staff will be giving a fascinating insight into how the five earth dams were constructed (1951-1977) and how they store and supply 60% of Auckland's water. You will also see our major reforrestation project, in which more than 300,000 native plants have been planted in an area once occupied by a forest.


Age limit: children must be aged five years and over and accompanied by an adult.    


Bookings are essential: open.day@water.co.nz 


A reasonable standard of fitness is required as the tour involves some walking. Please remember to wear flat, enclosed shoes (no jandals or high heels).

Watercare is hosting free guided tours of the Army Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant, located within Shakespear Regional Park, Whangaparāoa Peninsular. This is a great opportunity for a behind-the-scenes look at how a wastewater treatment plant operates. Each tour will be hosted by the plant operators themselves, who can provide a knowledgeable and interesting insight into what happens to wastewater ‘after you flush!’

Tour times: Every 45 minutes from 9 am until 12 pm

Bookings are essential: open.day@water.co.nz

Children must be over the age of 12 years old. Please wear flat, covered footwear (no heels or jandals). A reasonable standard of fitness is required as the tour involves some walking and stairs.

Dog walkers celebrate return of Footrot Flats mural, Big King Reserve

Many thanks to all the dog owners who have posted cute photos of their pooches on the Watercare Facebook page!

The Footrot Flats mural was recently defaced by graffiti vandals. Watercare cleaned it up and restored the picture and now dozens of dog owners have responded.
