Let me first introduce myself and our organization. My name is Kenvyn Rees and I am the Musical Director of a local men’s choir very fittingly called the “Old Crotchets.” We rehearse every Monday afternoon at my home, 26, Stonebridge Heights, for an hour or so which is followed with a cuppa and biscuits. It all started quite accidentally about seven years ago and we are continuing to develop. The choir is about 15 strong at the moment having just lost quite a few members to ill health. Our main aim is to enjoy our singing and if people enjoy listening to us that is a bonus. We sing a wide variety of music and as the choir develops we are able to sing, shall we say, more challenging music in unison or two or three part harmony. We would love to have more members to stretch that to four part harmony. We regularly get invitations to sing from local Rest Homes and from organizations in Marton and Taihape. We also sing quite regularly at the Feilding Music Society Concerts and have shared a stage with the Wellington Male Voice Choir on three occasions. We have also been “Guest Singers” at several concerts at the Feilding Civic Centre. At Christmas time and occasionally during the year we link up with the local Ladies Choir called the FMS Quavers and we are then known as the Crotchets and Quavers. Our long standing, or should I say long sitting pianist is really wanting to retire but has kindly agreed to rehearse with us until we can find a permanent pianist. Is there a pianist out there who would like to give us a try? If so, please contact me. Likewise with singers. If you can sing reasonably in tune give us a try as we have lots fun. As we put it “We take our singing seriously but we are not serious doing our singing. It all adds up to lots of fun. If you would like to give us a try please ring 3232924. or email me. kendiana@xtra.co.nz Now would be a good time to join us as we are ready to start work on our Christmas programme.
