The Handweavers and Spinners Guild is a group of like minded people who meet together in their rooms, known as the Textile Arts Centre, in Nicholson Park, Mt Eden, to share their interest in the fibre crafts - weaving, spinning, knitting, crochet, felting and dyeing. We have monthly meetings where we share our most recent work, listen to a speaker or do a hands-on activity, and have a shared lunch. Our wonderful library of textile books is open at the meeting, as is our ‘yarn room’ shop which also carries carded fleece for spinning. We also have four special interest groups which meet monthly at our rooms, and which cater for the felters, the weavers, the tapestry weavers and the spinners & knitters. Here you can share your problems and triumphs, get advice, and learn new skills. There is another group which meets every Tuesday evening and is open to members and non-members alike. Everyone is welcome – bring along your current project to work on, seek advice, or learn something new. We are passionate about education and about preserving these traditional crafts, and have a strong emphasis on sharing and on striving for excellence. We run frequent classes, and try to cater for all levels of expertise. There is a huge fund of knowledge in the members of the Guild, which they are always willing to share.
