Rodney Aphasia Group is a non-profit community organisation, available to people of any age and type of aphasia, their caregivers and family members.
Our group was established in 2006 by four people with aphasia. Membership started with 8 and today has around 60 members including caregivers. We welcome guests and new members at any time. Membership is $15 for an individual and $20 for a couple and includes the following:
Monthly support meetings, access to aphasia resources, guest speakers, monthly newsletters, links to other community groups and fully funded rehabilitation programmes (note the workshops offered may vary annually), but may include: Caregiver and Aphasia Workshops, Rhythm Therapy, Physio and Neurotherapy sessions and a Family Therapy Programme.
Meetings are held on the 4th Thursday of every month at Rotary House in Silverdale from 1.30pm until 3.00pm and include afternoon tea. Meetings are sociable, fun, informative and educational and provide people with the opportunity to meet others who are going through a similar experience.
Meetings aim to increase confidence for the person with aphasia and their caregivers, when communicating, and provide helpful strategies for dealing with the day to day challenges of living with aphasia.
Thanks to Community grants, our group has been able to operate and offer specialised courses for the last 12 years to our members. Look forward to welcoming you to our group soon!
