Diabetes NZ Wellington is a charitable organisation that has been providing support for people with diabetes and their families and friends in the greater Wellington area since 1960. We cover the four Wellington cities: Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt, Porirua and Wellington City. We currently have a membership of over 900 people, most of whom have diabetes. Our Mission: “Diabetes NZ Wellington to be regarded as the premier provider of non-medical support services to people with diabetes in the Wellington Region”. We provide a range of services which include: • Diabetes Information Centre • Field Officer Service provides one-to-one support • Basic and advanced supermarket tours • Cooking classes • Local and national magazines • A wide range of pamphlets and specialised information • A library of overseas magazines, videos and books • Access to specialised products, such as low sugar jams, sauces, toppings, cookbooks and other diabetes related products (meters, glucose tablets, circulation socks, etc.) • Telephone and email assistance • Advocacy for members We also carry out awareness activities, such as public talks and stands at local fairs, in order to promote wider awareness of diabetes and the services that Diabetes NZ Wellington provides
