685,000 reasons to be proud

Ewan Sargent from Christchurch City Mission

You can measure how caring a city is in many ways. But here at the Christchurch City Mission we think the 685,000 meals provided to hungry people in 2022 is as good a number as any. Yes, it measures the need, but it also measures how much support we got from people who donated their money, food, and time to help us achieve this. Those meals came from kindness. You can feel proud Christchurch. Thank you.

Within the group were plenty of guys who were big cricket fans however had never had a chance to attend a game before and they absolutely loved the chance to be a part of the crowd and to support their team….often very loudly!

One of the men staying in our emergency accommodation commented that his days are spent doing the same thing at the same places. Getting out and doing something different not only lifted his mood, he shared that ‘..it made him feel like a normal person in the community’.

Opportunity’s like this allow our whanau to have some fun and engage with their community in a positive way. A huge thank you to our supporters and Canterbury Cricket for your gift of the tickets and making this a reality.

We want to give more than 1000 people a true Kiwi celebration meal on Christmas Day.

And to us that means they should get a slice of pavlova.
With your help it can be done.

If you can spare an uncreamed pavlova to make Christmas special for fellow Cantabrians, please drop it in to our Hereford St premises.

We are also looking for donations of Christmas mince pies, Christmas cake and cream.

We are open from 9am-4pm Saturday and Sunday this weekend to accept donations, if that helps.

We’d love to see you. Thanks Christchurch!
