If you missed out last time or want to see the photographs again, head over to the … View moreAs part of Auckland Heritage Festival, Aotea Sea Scouts in conjunction with the Onehunga Community House are exhibiting the historic photographic exhibition of Onehunga's Changing Foreshore again this year. If you missed out last time or want to see the photographs again, head over to the Onehunga Community House. The exhibition is running daily 10AM to 4PM until Saturday 7th October. The exhibition covers photographs, images and newsclippings from early Onehunga settlement around 1840 through to more recent times. it contains some fabulous panoramic views of Onehunga's foreshore taken by early photographers and is well worth a visit.

Over 150 pictures are on display showing Onehunga since the 1850s, including some beautiful large panoramas, indicating just what Onehunga has lost and how industry and roading have shaped the foreshores. Many of these pictures have been digitally restored to a high quality, to truly enhance this exhibition.
This is your final chance to see this fantastic exhibition so don’t delay, get down to the Aotea Sea Scouts building this weekend and ensure you don’t miss out.

Hi everyone, as part of this year's Auckland Heritage Festival, Aotea Sea Scouts are hosting an exhibition of photographs titled "Onehunga's Changing Foreshore", this exhibition features over 150 photographs showing the changes to Onehunga's coastline over the past 170 … View moreHi everyone, as part of this year's Auckland Heritage Festival, Aotea Sea Scouts are hosting an exhibition of photographs titled "Onehunga's Changing Foreshore", this exhibition features over 150 photographs showing the changes to Onehunga's coastline over the past 170 years.
The exhibition runs from 8th to 16th October from the hall of Aotea Sea Scouts, between 10:00AM and 4:00PM daily.
This is not only an opportunity to see these wonderful photographs and learn about the history of Onehunga's foreshores from Te Papapa round to Hillsborough, but also an opportunity to see inside our historic building, normally only accessible to families of Sea Scouts.
Entry is free, but any donations to the Scouts are warmly appreciated.
Parking is outside the building, or opposite in Gloucester Park or along the motorway reserve, but please be very careful crossing the road. You can also park along Orpheus Drive and walk back to the Sea Scouts, or across in the Onehunga Lagoon carpark and cross via the footbridge then walk along Orpheus Drive.
A book titled "Onehunga's Changing Foreshore", including many of the photographs being exhibited, and covering the history in detail, will be available for purchase at the exhibition. The book is by Sea Scout leader and author Stephen Lasham and costs $45 cash (we cannot do EFTPOS at the hall).

I have a large number of 8*12 photographs that need mounting onto backing boards. Time constraints and doing it all myself manually mean this is going to be difficult to achieve. Hoping a generous framing studio will be willing to assist in this worthwhile project pro bono, with backing boards at cost, I'm happy to come and learn from you and do the work with your equipment if you are willing. If you can help or want more information before offering, please let me know. You will be recognised as a contributor of the event at the event for helping.
