Missing Hamilton swimmer ‘pulled into whirlpool and dragged down’
The adoptive father of a man missing in the Waikato River has described the horrifying moment his son was pulled under by a whirlpool in the middle of the river.
As of Sunday afternoon, Teananga Tiotia, 25, remained missing in the river. However, his adoptive parents, Tiotia Kaueata and Tema Teroko - who is the missing man’s older sister - said they were under no illusions regarding his likely fate.

‘Simply irresponsible’: Wallaby likely kept as pet in Hamilton, regional council says
A wallaby spotted in Hamilton was probably kept as a pet, the regional council says - and that’s “simply irresponsible”.
The dama wallaby, which had an immature joey in its pouch, was spotted in Frankton on March 3, reported and killed, Waikato Regional Council says.
