Who tests your water and filters are they worth it?

We have had a filter placed on our incoming water to our home. Told all water including showering would be done I would like our water tested to conform this. Some times im sure i can smell chlorine. Im skeptical its filtering out everything plus chlorine. Any suggestions please. Im also interested to hear others who have had filters installed . Thank you
