Struggles getting fresh water in Cambodia helped fuel Baromey Rous’s drive to study chemical engineering.

The 18-year-old spent her first years of life in the Southeast Asian nation, before coming to New Zealand - and she hopes to use her skills to help her home country.

She and fellow former Thames High School student Kyla Wilson each have a $10,000 Milford Foundation Scholarship to put towards their university studies.
