Flatbed turntable thingy [Update - taken]
This started life as the baseplate for an IBM 1621 paper tape reader for a 1960s IBM 1620 computer. The sprung buffer arms and rollers ensure the paper tape was under a constant gentle tension. I added the brass/aluminium platters to handle 16mm film and magnetic film, although I never finished the magnetic recorder I had in mind. The platters run on 1/2" shafts and good quality bearings. Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
